SS 904L Buttweld Fittings is an austenitic stainless steel with lower or least carbon content in the material’s composition. SS 904L has high copper content in the range of 23-28%, nickel of about 4-5%, less than 2% manganese, up to 2% molybdenum and less than 1% small elements such as silicon and phosphorus to stabilize chemical balance. This non-magnetic grade has much higher corrosion resistance from crevice corrosion and protects the material from carbide precipitation. This is commonly utilized in various applications due to the addition of a minor amount of molybdenum and nickel and can also be replaced with low-cost duplex stainless steel. This grade can be performed using all conventional methods and does not require post-weld and pre-heat treatments. Type 904L can be utilized under many conditions depending upon the environmental situation. It can be machined during cold working and should be carried out under conditions where fabrications under stress corrosion cracking environments are performed.
